Our saxophone catalog is below. The saxophone is generally known as the sax and is really a conical-bore transposing musical instrument and a part of the woodwind family of musical instruments. In general the saxophone is made by craftsmen using brass and played using a single-reed mouthpiece not dissimilar from that of the clarinet.

The saxophone was first designed in the mid 19th century by Adolphe Sax, a the Belgian instrument maker, who later gave the instrument its name. He wished to build an instrument that would not only be the most powerful and vocal of the woodwinds but also would be the most adaptive among the brass instruments and which would take advantage of the empty ground between the two sections.

Over the years there have been some truly eminent saxophonists but you might like to watch the man in the video below. You may have heard of him, but now you can watch and hear him play this beautiful instrument.

The saxophone consists of three parts - the mouthpiece, the neck and the horn and these latter two are pushed together to create the saxophone. The mouthpiece has a reed as an intricate part of it and this must be properly assembled to be able to play the instrument. Having done all these things the instrument is ready to play.

When the saxophone is attached to the cord around your neck the woggle on the cord should be so adjusted that the mouthpiece is aligned with your mouth so that there is no manual effort involved in placing it in the playing position.

Now with all musical instrument there are different fingers assigned to individual or small groups of keys. As you learn to hold the instrument correctly and discover how each of the fingers is applied to the keys to make music, you will also discover that it is not as easy as you had hoped! But fear not - these are early days and as you practice these things will become more second nature and much easier for you to do.
